Destinations

Akshardham Temple

‘Akshardham’ means the divine abode of God. It is hailed as an eternal place of devotion, purity and peace. Swaminarayan Akshardham at New Delhi is a Mandir – an abode of God, a Hindu house of worship, and a spiritual and cultural campus dedicated to devotion, learning and harmony. Timeless Hindu spiritual messages, vibrant devotional traditions and ancient architecture all are echoed in its art and architecture.

The mandir is a humble tribute to Bhagwan Swaminarayan (1781- 1830), the avatars, devas and great sages of Hinduism. The traditionally-styled complex was inaugurated on 6 November 2005 with the blessings of HH Pramukh Swami Maharaj and through the devoted efforts of skilled artisans and volunteers.

Day 2

Arrival at Bangalore, transfer to Tiruvannamalai, visit ashram, temple tour, dinner, and stay.

Destinations

Tiruvannamalai

Tiruvannamalai is one of the most venerated places in Tamil Nadu. In ancient times, the term “Annamalai” meant an inaccessible mountain. The word “Thiru” was prefixed to signify its greatness, and coupled with the two terms, it is called Tiruvannamalai.

The Temple Town of Tiruvannamalai is one of the most ancient heritage sites of India and is a centre of the Saiva religion. The Arunachala hill and its environs have been held in great regard by the Tamils for centuries. The temple is grand in conception and architecture and is rich in tradition, history and festivals. The main Deepam festival attracts devotees from far and wide throughout South India.

Sri Ramanasramam Ashram

If there’s one place that has left an indelible mark on everyone’s spiritual journey, it’s Sri Ramanasramam in Tiruvannamalai. This tranquil retreat sits at the base of the sacred Arunachala Hill, exuding a sense of calm that’s hard to put into words.

The ashram gradually grew in its present location after Ramana Maharshi settled near the Samadhi shrine of his mother Alagammal, who died on 19 May 1922. In the beginning, a single small hut was built there. By 1924 two huts were set up, one opposite the samadhi and the other to the north.

Day 3

Breakfast, drive to Pondicherry, hotel check-in, visit Aurobindo Ashram, sightseeing, dinner, stay.

Destinations

Pondicherry

Pondicherry is a peaceful city. It is referred by names such as ‘Quintessence of French Culture’, ‘India’s Little France’ and ‘The French Riviera of the East’. Still it has the French flavor in it as one can see by the grand colonial mansions, beautiful boulevards, and placid promenades, spellings on sign boards and buildings, names of roads and public places.

The uniqueness of Pondicherry town invariably lies in skillful town planning and Franco Tamil architecture. The town is built on the model of “bastide”, a fortified French coastal town of the late 18th Century.

Sri Aurobindo Ashram

Founded in 1926, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram has grown, under the Mother’s guidance, from a small group of two dozen disciples into a large and diverse community of almost 1600 members. Counting the 400 students of the Centre of Education and the hundreds of devotees who live nearby, the larger ashram community consists of more than 2000 people.

The Ashram is located in the eastern part of Pondicherry. Inmates live and work in a number of buildings spread throughout the area. The focus of community life is the Ashram main building, usually called simply “the Ashram”, which consists of an interconnected block of houses, including those in which Sri Aurobindo and the Mother lived for most of their lives. At its centre, in a tree-shaded courtyard, lies the Samadhi, a white marble shrine where their bodies are laid to rest.

Day 4

Breakfast, drive to Rameswaram, temple visits, sightseeing, meditation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Destinations

Rameswaram

Perched at the southern tip of the Indian peninsula, Rameswaram is a tranquil and sacred destination that weaves together breathtaking natural beauty with ancient pilgrimage sites.

Home to the renowned Ramanathaswamy Temple, Rameswaram is one of the holiest places for Hindus in India and is also a Char Dham pilgrimage site (four important Hindu pilgrimage sites).

Though nestled on Pamban Island, Rameswaram remains firmly linked to the mainland by the impressive Pamban Bridge, a true marvel of human engineering. Intriguingly, Rameswaram sits closest to Sri Lanka, and whispers of history suggest a bygone land bridge – the legendary Ram Setu – once connected the two nations. Steeped in spirituality and rich with stories, this captivating island town has enthralled travellers for centuries.

Day 5

Breakfast at hotel, explore Rameswaram temples, meditation, sightseeing, dinner, and overnight stay.

Rameswaram’s charm extends beyond its spiritual significance. Relax on pristine beaches, soak up the tranquil island vibes, and explore the town’s rich history. Let’s dive in and discover the magic of Rameswaram!

Rameswaram is located at 9.28°N 79.3°E . It has an average elevation of 10 metres (32 feet). The religious island is spread in an area of 61.8 square kilometres and happens to be in the shape of a conch. The Ramanatha Swamy Temple occupies major area of Rameshwaram.

The beach of Rameswaram is famous for its beautiful sea featured with no waves at all. The sea waves rise to a maximum height of 3 cm and the view looks like a very big river. Legend has it that Lord Ram of Ramayana prayed to the sea god to pave the way for Lanka. The sea god granted a boon saying that he will make the sea waves less to aid him in building a rock bridge.

Day 6

Breakfast, drive to Madurai, visit temples, sightseeing, meditation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Destinations

Madurai

Madurai, city, south-central Tamil Nadu state, southern India. It is located on the Vaigai River, about 30 miles (48 km) southeast of Dindigul. Madurai is the third most populous, and probably the oldest, city in the state.

The ancient history of the region is associated with the Pandya kings, and Madurai was the site of the Pandya capital (4th–11th century ce). Later it was conquered by Chola, Vijayanagar, Muslim, Maratha, and British rulers. In the 1940s it became known as the centre of the civil disobedience movement against the British raj, and it remained an important seat of political leadership.

Madurai is a major transportation hub for southern India, with road and rail lines radiating from the city. There is also an airport just south of the city, providing both domestic and international passenger and freight services. Large-scale industry has developed in the suburbs. Predominant are cotton spinning and weaving and the manufacture of transport equipment, tobacco, and sugar. Small-scale hand-loom weaving of silks and cottons, which have made Madurai famous throughout history, remains important.

Day 7

Breakfast, transfer to Madurai Airport, fly to Colombo, drive to Dambulla, hotel check-in, dinner, stay.

Destinations

Colombo

Colombo, city, executive and judicial capital of Sri Lanka. (Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, a Colombo suburb, is the legislative capital.) Situated on the west coast of the island, just south of the Kelani River, Colombo is a principal port on the Indian Ocean. It has one of the largest artificial harbours in the world and handles the majority of Sri Lanka’s foreign trade.

Dambulla

Dambulla is a city situated in the north of Matale District, in Sri Lanka’s Central Province. It is the second largest populated and urbanised centre after Matale in the Matale District. It is situated 148 km (92 mi) north-east of Colombo, 43 km (27 mi) north of Matale and 72 km (45 mi) north of Kandy. Due to its location at a major junction, it is the centre of major vegetable distribution in the country.

Major attractions of the area include the largest and best preserved cave temple complex of Sri Lanka, sigiriya rock fortress located in the division and the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, famous for being built in just 167 days. The area also boasts the largest rose quartz mountain range in South Asia, and the Iron wood forest, or Na Uyana Aranya.

Ibbankatuwa prehistoric burial site near Dambulla cave temple complexes is the latest archaeological site of significant historical importance found in Dambulla, which is located within 3 km (1.9 mi) of the cave temples providing evidence of the presence of indigenous civilisations long before the arrival of Indian influence on the Island nation.

Day 8

Breakfast, visit Dambulla Cave Temple, sightseeing, dinner, and overnight stay in Dambulla.

Destinations

Dambulla Cave

Located in central Sri Lanka, the Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple is a living Buddhist site that is focused on a series of five cave shrines. Inhabited by forest-dwelling Buddhist monks since the 3rd century BCE, these natural caves have been transformed continuously throughout the historical period into one of the largest and most outstanding Buddhist complexes in the Southern and South Eastern Asian region, showcasing innovative approaches to interior layout and decoration.

In keeping with a longstanding tradition associated with living Buddhist ritual practices and continuous royal patronage, the cave shrines underwent several renovation and refurbishing programmes before assuming their present interior forms in the 18th century. The vast internal spaces of the cave shrines are not compartmentalized, but are spatially differentiated by a deliberate and subtle arrangement of polychrome sculpture of exceptional craftsmanship and decorated with brilliant compositions of mural paintings.

Day 9

Breakfast, drive to Sigiriya, explore fortress and Ravana history, return to Dambulla, dinner, stay.

Sigriya

Sigiriya, site in central Sri Lanka consisting of the ruins of an ancient stronghold that was built in the late 5th century ce on a remarkable monolithic rock pillar. The rock, which is so steep that its top overhangs the sides, rises to an elevation of 1,144 feet (349 metres) above sea level and is some 600 feet (180 metres) above the surrounding plain.

The Sinhalese king Kashyapa I (reigned 477–495) built a palace in the shape of a monumental lion on the several acres of ground at the summit, intending it to be a safeguard against his enemies. However, the king was defeated in 495, and the palace fell into ruin. The site soon became a pilgrimage destination, however, and it is now a popular tourist spot. Visitors begin the final ascent to the top through the open paws of the lion, one of the few remaining portions of the palace that are still intact. Also notable are 21 rock paintings of apsaras (celestial singers and dancers). Sigiriya was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982.

Day 10

Breakfast, drive to Kandy, visit UNESCO Buddhist site, sightseeing, temples, meditation, dinner, stay.

Destinations

Kandy

Kandy is a major city located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka. It was the last capital of the Sinhalese monarchy from 1469 to 1818, under the Kingdom of Kandy.[1] The city is situated in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea.

Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and the capital of the Central Province. Kandy is the home of the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred places of worship in the Buddhist world. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988. Historically the local Buddhist rulers resisted Portuguese, Dutch, and British colonial expansion and occupation.

Buddhist UNESCO World Heritage

The physical and spiritual legacy of the Buddha is a source of inspiration for hundreds of millions of people around the world. One of the richest ways to experience it is to visit World Heritage monuments and landscapes in the Buddhist heartland of South Asia.

Buddhism, which looks beyond material desires to eternal truths—including compassion for all beings—has been integrated by diverse cultures around the world for 2,500 years. From its heartland in northern India, early Theravada Buddhism traveled in the 3rd century BCE to Sri Lanka and other parts of Southeast Asia, where it still thrives. In the First millennium CE, Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism spread to Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, China, Tibet, Korea and finally to Japan and northern Asia, where it combined with other traditions.

Day 11

Breakfast, drive to Nuwara Eliya, full-day sightseeing in Nuwara Eliya and Ella, dinner, and stay.

Destinations

Nuwara Eliya

Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka’s highest town and a favourite hill station during British colonial times. The town is still touted as ‘Little England’, an illusion maintained by the presence of the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, a racecourse, the Victoria Park and excellent trout fishing in nearby lakes and rivers. The temperature can drop close to freezing at night, and log fires are a common feature of the many Tudor-style houses. Adding to the atmosphere is the spectacle of its townsfolk wrapped in winter jackets and woolly hats, carting incredible bundles of turnips, leeks, marrows and cabbages to the markets.

Due to the high altitude, Nuwara Eliya has a much cooler climate than the lowlands of Sri Lanka, with a mean annual temperature of 16 °C. But the temperature changes, and sometimes it can be as low as 3°C. It is pretty cold at night in the winter, and there can even be frost. Although it rapidly warms up as the tropical sun climbs higher during the day.

Day 12

Breakfast, drive to Colombo, sightseeing, dinner, and overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Destinations

Colombo

The earliest written mention of the port may be that of Faxian, a Chinese traveler of the 5th century ce who referred to the port as Gaolanbu. The Sinhalese called the port Kolamba, which the Portuguese thought was derived from the Sinhalese word for mango trees (kola, “leaves,” and amba, “mango”). A more likely explanation is that kolamba was an old Sinhalese word meaning “port” or “ferry.”

Colombo’s important buildings include the Secretariat, the Town Hall, the Clock Tower, St. Lucia’s Cathedral, and the Galle Face Hotel. Other distinctive buildings in the city are the Wolvendahl Church, built by the Dutch in 1749; a complex of hospitals; the University of Colombo (1921); several Buddhist and Hindu temples; and the residences of the head of state and of the prime minister.

Day 13

Flight to New Delhi, and proceed to Soham Veda Village.

Destinations

Soham Veda Trust

Experience a warm welcome at the Soham Veda Trust with traditional Indian hospitality, including a sacred Pooja, Aarti, and Tilak ceremony. Begin the day with a guided tour of the trust’s facilities and learn about their inspiring initiatives. Enjoy a wholesome Indian lunch prepared with Ayurvedic herbs, featuring authentic dishes like Dal-Baati-Churma with pure makhhan and Shakkar chapati. In the afternoon, join a traditional cooking class led by a local chef, where you’ll uncover the secrets of Ayurvedic cuisine.

After some relaxation time, the evening concludes with a vibrant cultural program or a serene Satsang (spiritual gathering), offering a deeper connection with Indian traditions and the Soham Veda community. This day promises a true cultural immersion rooted in wellness, learning, and heartfelt hospitality.

Day 14
